Scars [Poem]

Scars show where you’ve been but not where you’re going

So, keep on moving forward, don’t show signs of slowing

Don’t let the past determine what the future will be

Just look through the eyes of faith and tell me what do you see

That word love, we throw it around it a lot

We say we're in it, but a lot of times, we’re really not

We confuse it with lust and emotions

That keep changing like tides of the oceans

In time, our true colors tend to show up

Next thing you know, it’s about that time for a break up

Now here’s the truth, these feelings come and go,

That’s why I take it slow simply because I want to know

If what we have is really real

Or just a temporary fling based on how we currently feel

I've learned not to listen to what people say

I'd rather pay attention to the actions they display

And beauty goes a long way but it can’t win the race

So, it’s not enough to have a nice body and a pretty face

I got an icebox where my heart used to be

Until I’m sure this time we can take things seriously

I've broken hearts: I've also had my heart broken

I've hurt people with some of the things that I've spoken

Other times it's because of the things that I've done

I've made mistakes, am I the only one?

So many fishes in the sea, we’re always throwing bait

But it’s kind of sad to see when love turns into hate

And this is something that I’m really trying to diagnose

Why do we hurt the ones that we claim to love the most?

It's hard to forgive and even harder to forget

But I got to let it go or I’ll be full of regret

Because good people tend to stay, they’re a blessing

While others come and go just so you can learn a lesson

See You can get hurt when you carelessly date

But a good relationship is always worth the wait

So I’m all saving all my love for the one who deserves it

and though she’s hard to find I just know she’ll be worth it

But in the meantime, I’ll be working on me

Cause a better man is what I desire to be

And after making these mistakes, you better learn

Some things are easy to lose but so hard to earn (Trust)

We might mess up at times but through it all we’re growing

And now I put my trust in the one that’s all knowing

So, I pray to my father on the throne above

And this is my prayer, father teach me how to love

Teach me how to forgive despite what people do

Teach me to love unconditionally just like you

For better or for worse

Teach me to love like how your son loves the church

Teach me to see them as souls that need a savior

Teach me to love despite their behavior

I want to get married once with no divorce

That’s why I need your guidance, so Lord be my source

Cause this is a statement I find to be very true

For me to know love, first I need to know you

You take broken pieces and you make them new

Cause every good and perfect gift, it comes from you

So, lead me to that woman who is so lost in you

That for me to find her, first I’d have to find you
